{"id":502,"date":"2017-11-09T15:54:52","date_gmt":"2017-11-09T15:54:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/balancednotbusy.com\/?p=502"},"modified":"2018-07-05T15:32:15","modified_gmt":"2018-07-05T15:32:15","slug":"6-ways-stay-sane-wonderful-time-year","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.balancednotbusy.com\/wp\/6-ways-stay-sane-wonderful-time-year\/","title":{"rendered":"6 Ways to Stay Sane During the Most Wonderful Time of the Year"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It happens every single year, we vow to limit the number of Holiday parties that we attend, tell our parents that we will not travel home for the Holidays, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/sites\/leliagowland\/2016\/12\/19\/how-to-say-no-to-planning-office-holiday-parties-and-other-grunt-work\/#5b529f2b460c\">avoid signing up to plan the office party<\/a> and not camp out all night to get the hottest toy from \u201cSanta.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>We make these extreme promises to ourselves and then we break them!\u00a0 Stop the cycle and adhere to the 6 manageable tips below to <strong>maintain your balance<\/strong> during the Holiday season.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Keep the caffeine to a normal consumption<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Now, I know that many of you will stop reading after this tip.\u00a0 You\u2019ve already decided that this post is NOT\u00a0for you.\u00a0 Stay with me and hear me out.\u00a0 Do NOT jump from 2 cups of coffee a day to 5 cups + an energy drink + a caffeine filled power bar just to help you do \u201call the things\u201d during the Holidays.\u00a0 I know that this one will be hard and the fancy seasonal cups at Starbucks do not make it easier.\u00a0 Increased caffeine, means decreased sleep and you will need all of your rest and maybe even a little extra rest, in order to manage an aggressive schedule.\u00a0 Stick with what your body is used to and pace yourself.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/balancednotbusy.com\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/IMG_5675-e1510088147310.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-507\" src=\"https:\/\/balancednotbusy.com\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/IMG_5675-e1510087869867-1024x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"1024\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h2><strong>Maintain your morning routine, it\u2019s the foundation to a balanced day<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>How do you start your day? Meditation? Devotion? Workout? The week night Holiday shindigs can totally mess up your morning schedule and before you know it you are in a vicious cycle of altering your entire life for the cranberry cocktail at the neighbor\u2019s cookie exchange.\u00a0 Give yourself an end time, stick with it, go home, get in bed and wake up refreshed and ready to conquer the day.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Schedule some time to pause<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>We schedule our entire lives.\u00a0 Work meetings, happy hour with friends, picking up the kids and Holiday gift shopping\u2026yet we somehow forget to schedule stillness.\u00a0 Add a reminder on your phone to pause for 15 minutes at some point in your day.\u00a0 It\u2019s an opportunity to regroup.\u00a0 Trust me when you are full fledged into the Holiday \u201cmarathon\u201d you will appreciate the time to pause and clear your mind.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Create boundaries<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>One year, I attended 11 Holiday parties, galas, receptions, soirees, etc\u2026 in 4 weeks. Ridiculous, right?\u00a0 \u00a0 Now, I sit down and decide how many events I can attend that will not disturb my balanced not busy life and I stick to it.\u00a0 Sometimes that means that I must say no or I must prioritize one over another, but it\u2019s worth it!\u00a0 As a result I am a happy little elf vs a mean Scrooge.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>I\u2019m wiser now, I only commit to one function a day and not every day<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>If you are still scratching your head trying to figure out how I did 11, in 4 weeks. Wonder no more, here\u2019s the secret.\u00a0 I attended multiple functions (sometimes I even did an outfit change) in one day.\u00a0 I know, I know\u2026CRAZY!\u00a0 \u00a0 I\u2019ve been cured of FOMO (fear of missing out) and thanks to social media, I can enjoy all that I miss from the comforts of my couch.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Do NOT add &#8220;Holiday Office Party Planner&#8221; to your resume!<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>If you\u2019re like me, you are probably already sorting thru your Christmas sweaters and preparing for what you will wear to the office Holiday gatherings.
