It seems to be a recurring theme on the interwebs that folks are cautiously walking into this new year and keeping expectations at a minimum. And while I typically like to set myself apart, I’m 100% on board with skipping the new year, new me plan and embracing more of the same me.

Like so many others, I learned a TON about myself, my friendships and my professional boundaries in 2020. Because of the nonstop disruptions and uncertainty, I was forced to take a hardcore look at my priorities. And with all of that learning, it only seems right that this year would be rooted in applying what I now know.

I’ve never been one to set resolutions, but goal setting is one of my love languages so I will admit that it’s been weird to not sit down and fill my planner with month by month color coded goals with fancy stickers to keep me on track. On the other hand, I did make a list of 21 things, affectionately referred to as #21in21 on my social media pages that are important to me this year based on what I learned about myself last year.

I took my sweet time coming up with this list and lifted the pressure of having it all set in stone by the first of the year. Honestly, I finished it this morning, so clearly there’s still time for you to embrace this activity if you want to join me.

So here’s how to set up your #21in21 list:

Step One: make a list of your key learnings from 2020. Be honest with yourself and don’t skip any corners.

Step Two: highlight the 21 learnings that you would like to focus on.

Step Three: create some space and time in your day to think about what life might look like this year if you applied the learnings from 2020. This could be building on current skills, becoming more consistent, renewing relationships…honestly anything!

Step Four: make your list of #21in21 based on the vision that you outlined in step three.

A few items on my list are personal, so I’m keeping them close to the chest. If you need some thought starters, below are a handful of my items to get you started! And if you decide to create your own #21in21, let me know by using the hashtag in your social media posts or dropping a comment below. I would love to support your journey.
